Jeses wants us to follow his example of serving others
Posted by pastorpaul on: Friday 19 March @ 13:32:48 (Read: 282) |
On a September day in 1967, a young fighter pilot named John McCain was shot down over North Vietnam. With his plane spiraling to earth at 500 miles an hour, he ejected. He struck the plane on the way out, breaking his left arm, his right arm in three places, and his right knee. He landed in a shallow lake, before he was dragged out and beaten by an angry crowd. Finally an army truck arrived and hauled him away. He spent the next five years as a prisoner of war.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Posted by Anonymous on: Friday 25 September @ 18:38:06 (Read: 159) |
Pastor Paul writes: "Someone said that there are more than 700 names by which Jesus Christ is identified in the Scriptures.
Let me show you some of them:.......
Some describe His relationship to God,
some His relationship to His people,
and some define His Character or Nature.
But "Jesus," says Paul,
is the name above all others.
So, what's in that name? "

HOW TO MAKE A GREAT CHURCH EVEN GREATER
It is a shining light in a dark world.
It is a great church because it is built upon the solid foundations of the Word of God, the will of God and the ways of God.
It is a great church because we are not ashamed of our past, our convictions, our worship, our standards or our Lord.
It is a great church because Jesus Christ is honored by the people who attend this church.
It is a great church because we are not looking for a new hymnbook, a new rule book or a new book of doctrines.
This is a great church because it is a place where the Savior is exalted, the saints are edified, the lost are introductice tro the LORD.

In the mid-twentieth century, in Bangkok, Thailand, the government wanted to build a large highway through a village. Yet in the path of the planned road was a Buddhist monastery with a little chapel, so they had to relocate the monastery – including a heavy, 11 foot clay statue of Buddha – to another place. Using a crane, the government workers moved the monastery in sections. When the workers transported the statue of Buddha to the new location and began to lower it into place, however, the clay on the statue started to crumble and fall off.

Mothers are cleaning ladies.
Some mothers are gardeners & mowers of lawns. And most mothers understand that baking cookies is more important than washing windows, too.
Mothers are nurses & doctors & psychologists & counselors & chauffeurs & coaches.
Mothers are developers of personalities, molders of vocabularies, & shapers of attitudes. Mothers are soft voices saying, "I love you."
And mothers are a link to God,
a child’s first impression of God’s love.

A young girl grows up on a cherry orchard just above Traverse City, Michigan. Her parents, just a bit old fashioned, tend to overreact to her nose ring, the music she listens to, and the length of her skirts. They ground her a few times and she seethes inside. "I hate you," she screams at her father when he knocks on the door of her room after an argument. And that night she acts on a plan she has mentally rehearsed scores of times. She runs away. In my lifetime I have read the Bible through more than once. And every time I do, it always reveals to me something new. Even though I’ve read it before, even the most popular of the scriptures, God still breaths new life into His word.
During Jeremiah’s this time, there was no Bible to say of, and God would use men like Jeremiah to speak to us.
Some one asked me my opinion
of our text for today?
Does this mean is was wrong to put a Christmas tree up on not.

There are mealtime prayers. All of you know what those are like.
Then there are bedtime prayers; you know what those can be like.
There are church prayers, like the one I just prayed.
There are private prayers, like the ones you pray when you're off alone by yourself.
There are recited prayers and there are spontaneous prayers.
There are crisis prayers, which can get messy.
And then there are those conversational prayers.
There are painfully honest prayers, and then there are abusive prayers, manipulative prayers, deceptive prayers.
But today,
I decided to talk to you about hazardous prayers.

Acts of Man & Acts of God -- { Virginia Tech Massacre }
Posted by Anonymous on: Thursday 26 April @ 17:43:14 (Read: 294) |
Located in Virginia, nestled in the quaint town of Blacksburg, a program of 60 bachelor’s degrees, 140 masters and doctoral programs, 25,000 fulltime students, 100 buildings on 2600 acres. that’s Virginia Tech.
It is ranked high in the nation for research. The 2006 freshman class had a high school grade point average of 3.80, and an average cumulative SAT score of 1231. This is a world class college.
It is something for Virginians to be proud of. How could you think of a university setting like this as anything else other than a great place for your daughter or son to start their young lives.
Tragically that view has been transformed by a misguided twisted mind and 33 young lives were cut tragically short, and 29 others were sent to the Hospital. 62 people shot in all.

Every now and then somebody comes up with an idea that really catches on and makes everybody else say, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
A few years ago the Whitelight Casket Company came up with the idea of making decorative caskets that reflect the personality and the lifestyle of the person being buried.
For example, if you’re a golfer you can select the “Fairway to Heaven” model, which has a picture of a beautiful golf hole painted on the outside.

There Is Only One Way to God and That Is Through Jesus Preached Jan 7, 2007

The Jewish Rabbi accused Christians of holding up a sign that says, “Ours is the only way, the one way to get to Heaven, to get to God.”
He is upset, and so are a number of other people on the Donahue show, because they feel that for Christians to say that ours is the only true way is arrogant, intolerant and exclusive.
Who are we to say that there is only one way to God, and we have it?

When you hear that tune, it immediately brings a smile to your face. In your mind it conjures up an image of a carefree Jamaican man who's at ease and stress free. To him life is simply a vacation. There's no stress, no concerns, no bills to pay, no children to shuttle from event to event, no sickness to battle, and no problems to solve. Don't worry -- be happy!

God Walks Beside You Psalm 23:
Posted by Anonymous on: Monday 02 October @ 11:46:45 (Read: 297) |
Next to John 3:16, I doubt that there's a passage of Scripture that is better known than the 23rd Psalm. You may hear it on a television program, or a friend with no church involvement may say it to you when you're experiencing a tough time. Perhaps someone will even read it to you in hopes of comforting you. I have read this passage at the cemetery after funeral service many times.
There have been times that I have read this to non-churched mourners, and as I was reading this Psalm, their lips were mouthing each word right along with me.

Freedom In Christ John 8: 32-36
Posted by Anonymous on: Monday 02 October @ 11:46:12 (Read: 345) |
What does freedom mean to you?
For a baby, I guess, freedom is being able to get out of the crib and crawl around on the living room carpet.
If you're a third grader, freedom is the last day of school and you know you have summer vacation ahead of you.
For the sixteen-year-old, it's getting that driver's license.
For the high school graduate, it's leaving home and being on your own in college with no one to tell you what to do.
I once heard of a teen-ager who was tired of his parents telling him what to do, so he ran off and joined the Marines!

Beware of the Plagues Exodus 7:1-11:10
Posted by Anonymous on: Thursday 17 August @ 14:50:18 (Read: 348) |
I am sure that most of you have read the story of the Exodus. Israel had been slaves in Egypt for 400 years, driven and abused by the power of Pharaoh to build cities that would be a monument to Egyptian power and gods for many centuries.
Some of those monuments are partially visible even today, thousands of years after the deliverance of Israel from bondage by the mighty hand of God.
Most of the time we read through that story and we don’t even give them much thought.
That was a story for people who lived a long time ago and in a place far away.
We don’t think of those plagues of Egypt that happened some 4500+ years ago as something that has just as much impact upon our lives of today as it did back then.

Let Me See Your Hands - John 20 : 19-29
Posted by Anonymous on: Monday 24 April @ 13:54:46 (Read: 344) |
A little boy, growing up in a community where his father served as a minister was outside playing. He was doing all of the things that a little boy does. He was climbing trees. He was swinging on the swing set and jumping out. He was rolling and playing with his dog. His mother called him for dinner and all of the family gathered at the table. His mother looked at him and said, "Young man, let me see your hands."

FAMILIES IN FLAMES Genesis 37:1-1
Posted by Anonymous on: Saturday 28 June @ 12:18:36 (Read: 879) |
A married couple is driving along a highway doing a steady forty miles per hour. The wife is behind the wheel. Her husband suddenly looks across at her and speaks in a clear voice. "Darling," he says. "I know we've been married for twenty years, but I want a divorce." The wife says nothing, keeps looking at the road ahead but slowly increases her speed to 45 mph. The husband speaks again. "I don't want you to try and talk me out of it," he says, "because I've been having an affair with your best friend, and she's a far better lover than you are." Again the wife stays quiet, but grips the steering wheel more tightly and slowly increases the speed to 50. He pushes it . "I want the house," he says insistently. Up to 55. "I want the car, too," he continues. 60 mph. "And," he says, "I'll have the bank accounts, all the credit cards and the boat." The car slowly starts veering towards a massive concrete flyover. This makes him a wee bit nervous, so he asks her: "Isn't there anything you want?" The wife at last replies - in a quiet and controlled voice. "No, I've got everything I need." she says. "Oh, really?" he inquires, "so what have you got?" Just before they slam into the wall at 65 mph, the wife turns to him and smiles. "The airbag."

Depression is such a common experience in our time that it has been called the common cold of modern psychiatry. That's about as effective as treating the common cold with aspirin.
I am concerned about depression.

How many prophesies did Jesus fullfill at Easter?
Posted by Anonymous on: Sunday 31 March @ 00:21:03 (Read: 529) |
(Isa 7:14) Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. F
(Mat 1:18-25) Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. 20But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means, God is with us. E

SHE LEFT HER WATERPOT! JOHN 4:7-29

Jesus was weary and thirsty. On his northward journey from Judea to Galilee, He chose to go through Samaria. The Bible says, And He had to pass through Samaria.
Actually He chose to. Normally Jews would take a route that would bypass Samaria. But Jesus had an appointment there with a woman who didn't even know it.
The disciples went into the city to buy food. He stayed by the well of Jacob at Sychar, a city of Samaria. Then she came. She came alone probably because she had few real friends; she came to this out of the way spot possibly because she was shunned in the city.

Jesus Christ, The son of God. The Prince of Peace, Wonderful, Counselor, Emmanuel, The Messiah, The Promised One.
Exactly who was Jesus? He was, and is the son of God, the Father.
He was mothered by Mary.
His legal Father was Joseph. Though God was his Father, Joseph acted as his Father here on earth. I guess you could say that Joseph was the most notable step-fathers in the history of mankind!
Jesus was a carpenter by trade. This was Joseph’s trade as well.

Did you ever buy something, I put it in a cart, with wheels, put it in a bag and put the bag in a cart with wheels, roll it to your car, then drive it home & put it away, then complain about having to carry it in the house.

KEEPERS OF THE FLAME
Posted by Anonymous on: Sunday 31 March @ 00:08:39 (Read: 563) |
1 Thessalonians 5:19 1 Thessalonians is believed to be Paul’s first epistle. He wrote to them shortly after establishing the congregation from the city of Corinth. The Macedonians were a powerful Church. Paul commends them on various occasions. Paul writes for the primary purpose of exhorting this strong Church to become even stronger in their faith and confidence in the Lord. As Paul closes this epistle he leaves them with several short imperative statements. Each of them is important. However they all appear to be tied to the imperative statement, ‘Quench not the Spirit.’ The Thessalonians must be keepers of the flame. They cannot allow their cinders to cease. They cannot allow their coals to become cold. They cannot allow their fire to become smoke. Paul understands one important thing. The success of any local congregation is directly related to the Holy Spirit’s impact in their lives and among them.

Billy Bartholomew was a rather interesting young boy. He had been going to church for a long time. Billy’s dad was a deacon. But Billy considered church to be rather boring. And so he saw it as his calling to spice things up a bit.

THREE MEN, THREE CROSSES AND THREE DEATHS! LUKE 23:32-46
Posted by Anonymous on: Tuesday 23 May @ 13:00:12 (Read: 518) |
There are many ways one might meet one's demise. It might be an accident, it might be disease, it might be old age, or it might even be through intent, ours or someone else's. Though there are many means by which one might experience death, there are only two possible conditions in which one might meet the hour of death. We see each of those two conditions in the text for today. But before we look at the text more closely, let me share the account of three young men. They had been given opportunity to do well. They came from a good home. They were loved by their parents. They were brothers, biologically, but two of the young men were of a different spirit. When they grew into their teens, they became involved in fights, parties, immorality and crime. The third, the elder brother, tried to urge them to do differently, but was met with scorn and ridicule. In a real sense, the elder brother, we'll call him Bill, represents the attitude, activity and experience of the Lord Jesus Christ. He, too, came to offer us a different, better and Godly way of life. He, too, was met with scorn, rejection and ridicule. His plea, too, fell on deaf ears. In time there was an attempted robbery and Bill's brother, Ted, was shot and killed. He had not availed himself of Bill's offer of help and died in his delinquency. A similar situation shows up in the text. There we see three men, three crosses and three deaths. In spite of all Jesus' grace, intent, desire and ability to save we see one spurning Him unto death. Consider the first man.

Balaam, (Numbers 22:1-35)
[1] Scared to Death (Num. 22:1-3) What a sight it must have been to look out and see the Israelites heading your way! The Moabites were aware of how the Israelites had prevailed over those who opposed them along the way.

Seven Things to Watch Out For So You Don't Lose Your Faith (Read Hebrews 3:12-14

A little girl got home from Sunday school, where she had been taught the verse: Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. She asked her mother, when she repeated the verse, what it meant. Her mom said, Well, it means that when you are good and kind and thoughtful and obedient, you are letting Christ's light shine in your life before all who know you.

Exodus 16:2-15 In Sunday School today they were looking at the same lessons that we have read this morning.
It is the prayer and hope of the church that in this way families will be able to share among themselves some of the same ideas about God.

Life Without Regret
Posted by Anonymous on: Tuesday 23 May @ 12:58:47 (Read: 649) |
...and you're in church. That comes as a surprise to some of you. If somebody would have told you a few years ago that you would be awake in the morning, let alone in church, you'd have laughed in their face. But you're here. Just take a look around for a moment. Look at the person next to you real quick. You see somebody that's committed or else somebody who leads a pretty dull life. They're here , and I'd like to take a few moments this morning to reflect on choices, to reflect on the decisions that you've made over the last year.

THAT I MIGHT KNOW CHRIST
If every person in the world had adequate food, housing, income, if all the men were equal, if every possible social evil and injustice were done away with, men would still need one thing: JESUS CHRIST.

Paul's Nephew -- Acts 23:12-24
It took remarkable courage for this young man to walk into the Roman prison and save the life of Paul in this way. It is obvious that he cared more about doing what is right than about going along with the crowd. The lessons we learn from his story will inspire us to instill in our children a desire to stand for truth.
