Independent Christian churches go way back to 1901 when some 20,000 people walked, drove their wagons or rode horses to a camp meeting revival near Paris, Kentucky. It’s not hard to picture the crowds of early settles, horses and wagons in the fields surrounding a rustic church building.

The man to whom I'm going to introduce you was not a scrooge, he was a kind decent, mostly good man. Generous to his family, upright in his dealings with other men. But he just didn't believe all that incarnation stuff which the churches proclaim at Christmas Time. It just didn't make sense and he was too honest to pretend otherwise. He just couldn't swallow the Jesus Story, about God coming to Earth as a man.

I grew up in a Christian home and was very active in the church as a youth. I was baptized at the age of nine and even considered becoming a minister while in high school. However, I entered college as a believer and graduated an agnostic. Two things happened. One, I began to question the faith my parents had given me, wanting to find my own beliefs. Two, I succumbed to the intelligent-sounding arguments of my professors, most of whom were skeptics. Intellectually, I found atheism untenable and agnosticism too shallow. I don't know where you are on your spiritual journey, but here's what led me back to a belief in God and a commitment to Jesus as Lord of my life.

Fire investigators are still unsure what caused the fire that burned down a thrift shop and forced two other businesses to temporarily close on Sept. 19.
“We may never know what caused the fire,” said Battalion Chief Mike Davidson of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Trespassing and metal obstacles might prevent investigators from pinpointing the cause.

We were living in Lindsay (Ca.) On Page Street. The bedrooms were tiny, but it was a pleasant little house. The backyard was wide and deep, with room for the red plank sandbox and a crude tree house. That sandbox had been knocked down and moved with us ever since Mark was a year old! It first held sand from Camron Creek - then from the beach in Kaneohe Bay. Friends, communion is a very significant! And if you were to ask me to try to capture the essence of what communion is all about in one word, I think I could do it. The single word I would choose would be the word, remember. We read in Luke 22 that when Jesus and His disciples were at the table having their last supper, you've all seen the painting, just hours before His arrest and crucifixion, Jesus took a piece of bread from off the table and everything got real quiet around the table. The disciples didn't know what He was going to do. Dinner was over!

Would you prefer reading a book by candlelight or by a bright overhead light? If you’re like most people, you would choose the overhead light. Although candlelight has a certain beauty about it, it’s quite limited in the amount of light it can give. Besides, a gust of wind could blow it out or someone could easily extinguish it. To accomplish any amount of reading without serve eyestrain, we need the overhead light to illuminate the book’s pages. And to get this light, we must use a switch.
